빌 에반스 트리오는 피아노에 빌 에반스, 베이스에 스캇 라파로, 드럼에 폴 모션으로 구성되었다. 이들은 약 2년 남짓한 기간 동안 활동하며 4장 앨범을 냈고, 그 앨범들은 모두 리버사이드 레이블을 통해 발표되었으며 4장의 앨범 모두 이들을 대표하는 명반이 되었다. 그러나 빌리지 뱅가드 실황연주가 끝나고 열흘 후에 베이시스트 스캇 라파로가 교통사고로 사망한 후 이들 트리오는 더 이상 지속될 수 없게 되었다.
